Ask anyone what the primary fuel that their car burns is, and they are likely to say "gas". A few clever ones might say "diesel". Relatively few would give the correct answer, "air", or more precisely, "oxygen".

A 6.5L V-12 breathes a LOT of air, but it can't breathe in the traditional way. A normal engine gets its air from under the hood and sucks it in with vacuum. The air enters through the grill after passing the radiator and under the engine. The engine of the Aventador is behind the seats, so it must get its air from somewhere else. Right behind the headrests on the sides are a pair of inlets. You might expect a car like this to have a supercharger to force all that air into the engine, but it is actually normally aspirated. Air is rammed into these inlets with more and more dynamic pressure as the car goes faster.

Step 7 represents the air intake system of the engine and the parts are shown here. They include the inlet housings, the air filters, the intake manifold, the throttle valves, and some other items I confess I can't readily identify.

This step has more parts than any so far.
