Tamiya TRF 420X Project
Page 1: Unboxing
The TRF 420X comes in a small box with a carrying handle like many
standalone chassis. There is no box art on this kind of box,
instead there is a printed title on the front and an insert on the side with the relevant (but minimal) details about
the model.
This particular box has a couple of surprises. From the corner
view on the left you can see that it is not actually made of
cardboard. It seems to be a corrugated plastic which is much more
durable. Presumably this could be used as a carrying case that
could be taken to races and not disintegrate if it got wet. This
was introduced with the original TRF 420. A bottom view of the box
shows an errata sheet that has been placed inside the shrink
wrap. Apparently the battery hold down posts included in the kit
were too long so some shorter posts were included instead. My own
build revealed that I probably could have used the original parts, but
options are always welcome.
When the box is opened you
see very little, but the lovely optional aluminum lower chassis is immediately visible.
Because TRF kits don't come with a body, the sticker sheet doesn't
represent any particular livery. These TRF 420X stickers are
unique to this model.
All of the parts are laid out on my table. I've
knolled all the parts, set out the manual, and have prepared to start
the build. There is a lot of aluminum and
carbon here. It looks like there aren't many parts, but that's because so much hardware is consolidated in the bags.
