The Ultima 2WD buggy was released in 1986, one year
after the 4WD Optima and was re-released by Kyosho in 2019.
Although the design of 2WD and 4WD buggies is usually quite different,
the Ultima is basically a 2WD Optima using exactly the same gearbox and
motor mount. The chassis, however, is completely different and
uses a formed aluminum plate that is very strong and rigid. The
Ultima was a bit of a revolution at the time and went on to win lots of
races in the 2WD class. In fact, Kyosho released a couple of
special editions to commemorate these race wins which I'll be building
later.
This is a 2WD off road chassis
with four wheel double wishbone suspension and oil filled
dampers. Kyosho has made a few changes to the original design to
make it more durable and suitable for modern electronics and batteries.
